Best of 2007 : Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

This is what happens when you tell Studio Gainax to make a Sunday morning cartoon show.

The crappy Best of 2007 notices continue, as I struggle to think of things to rave about without being reminded of how bad this year was for my personal life. So far, it’s not working.

However, I’m sure that everyone involved in the fandom will have heard of this one. In the beginning, it was just an inconspicuous kid-friendly mecha show (or something). Given GAINAX’s recent track record, I doubt anyone but the diehard fans really even cared… until the first episode hit like a tidal wave.

Best of 2007 : GameSpy Top 10

Preferably, I would write up my own favourites for the year, but of course, my computer still being in a case (and subsequently, me not having played any games for the last six months) would preclude me from doing that. Which is why, for now, I’ll send up GameSpy’s List, since they are one of the few gaming publications I still trust to give a fair opinion of expectations.

Best of 2007 : Nico Mix

For a site that’s barely one year old, NicoNico Douga has had incredible success, easily beating out YouTube in certain communities.

In a shower of spirit, pride, attitude, genius, and triumph, fifteen users assembled to give a ten-minute performance of some of the greatest songs in the underground culture. Showing, once again, the flame of hope and celebration of their art. It was unrecognized and gone without fame outside of the site itself and its direct relatives, but it stands out nonetheless.

And so I present, the coop medley NicoNico Douga Special feat. Hatsune Miku, 33-song mix.

And as a sidenote, the performer “J” has an astounding voice. His ’solo’ is here.
